Table Settings & Inspiration for Smaller Holiday Get-Togethers

The holiday season of 2020 is going to be a little different than normal this year. For one thing, more wine will be needed. We all deserve that! Additionally, the gatherings will be smaller in order to keep everyone safe.

By focusing on positivity and smaller gatherings, the holidays could be made extra special. Just think… fewer people… less traveling… lower stress… more time to make each moment special and unique (also, more turkey for you!). By following our tips and tricks for beautiful and unique table settings, we can help you celebrate and honor your holiday traditions.

The Gourmet Shop has just the thing to make these smaller holiday gatherings be impressive, rich, and festive. Hester & Cook celebrates traditions and modern living with gorgeously crafted paper placemats, table runners, kitchen accessories, stationery, pencils, art prints, and gifts for the home. According to Hester & Cook, “there’s always a reason to celebrate”, and we couldn’t agree more!

Whether it’s with family, or friends, for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, or Hanukkah… you can always find a reason to celebrate with TGS’s exquisite collection of beautiful tableware and place settings.

When most people think of place settings and table runners, they think of extremely traditional feasts and stuffy dinner parties. However, TGS is here to change that frame of mind! Adding pops of color, beautiful neutrals, the use of layering, and adding personalization and whimsy can make your event impress even the best. Here are a few of our tips and tricks of the trade…

Layer – When using Hester & Cook’s paper placemats, runners, and accents it’s easier than ever to layer your designs without the table becoming too bulky. Mix & match designs and color palettes, be as traditional or creative as you want to be! By using paper accents or placemats on your serving boards and platters, the food becomes the star of the show. A gold-striped table runner can be easily paired with the whimsical “Baby Owls” placemats, or the “Bountiful Pheasant” and “Gold Flora” can mix and match to create a fun and festive look.

Personalize – Place cards and accents can be a merry and festive way to make the table special and personal for your friends and loved ones. Coloring placemats and runners can also be a fun activity for kids and adults alike.  Just add colored pencils to your table and let everyone have fun decorating their own.

Keep It Simple – With the rich and festive designs in addition to your amazingly homemade food (or goodies purchased from TGS… no one’s judging!) you’ll want to keep the table as simple as possible. Using two to three designs on the table while keeping with the traditional place setting, it will be impressive without being overwhelming.

The 4-5 Place Setting Rule – Now that you’ve got the decor down, it’s time to set the table! Hester & Cook has come up with an easy to remember guide for getting the perfect place setting :

Hopefully, these tips and tricks can help make your covid-friendly gatherings a little brighter and more festive. We can’t wait to see you at the shop to help with all your holiday shopping needs! We have all the wine, cheese, and provisions to make this holiday season extra special. Until then… here’s some inspiration to make your next celebration one to remember.
